Client Requirements

The client was looking to make the most of the stunning views available at their rural location by creating an amazing outdoor living space. The client had developed their own design concept and had a very clear idea of the space they were looking to create. Key requirements were:

  • Incorporation of a small kitchen space, large dining table and hot tub

  • Aluminium rotating and retracting Louvre Roof Systems

  • Wind protection provided by glass screening on the southern facing elevation which provided outstanding country views

The perfect entertaining space. This L coupled, fully retractable all aluminium louvred system is home to a sunken hot tub area and dining space illuminated with mood lighting integrated into the aluminium louvres.

Product selection

The clients specific requirements and budget, including a retractable louvre roof, meant OutHounds needed to be more creative with our manufacturing partners as our traditional European suppliers; Gibus, Corradi and Stobag could not provide the appropriate solution. We had started working with a couple of Turkish suppliers and in the end we settled for Sunset Pergolas, based in Istanbul. Utilising bespoke variants of their SkyCloud, SkyFree and Guillotine Glazing solutions.

Project Cost & Timelines

The client used a separate construction company for the groundwork and brick supporting walls. OutHounds managed the supply and fit of the Bioclimatic Louvre Roof Systems and Guillotine Glass.

In total the size of cover is 48m2, with three height adjustable double glazed screens providing lateral wind protection. In general Turkish bioclimatic roofs are cheaper than European with cost per square metre as of Q2 2022 of around £750/m2. The 3 Guillotine Glass windows came to around £11,000.

Factor in the integrated LED lights and installation and a project such as the above would require a budget of £45k to £55k inc VAT. Given the size and bespoke nature of the project turnaround time of between 8 to 12 weeks from order to installation.
